Although FIRST Telecommunications was established in 1981, our experience extends back to the birth of the industry.  In 1968, the landmark Carter Phone Decision ultimately led to the breakup of the largest monopoly in the world,  the Bell System. This is when Donald McKersie, our co-founder, left Bell and began distributing the first privately owned telephone systems throughout Michigan.
